Do I need to see a Therapist?
As a general rule of thumb it is felt that a problem needs professional help if it is interfering with a persons everyday life.
This can sometimes be tricky to weigh up because often what once irritated, troubled or bothered us can become the norm as our tolerance of problems, pain and distress can increase significantly without us being aware of it.
As an example, I have no idea of how uncomfortable my shoes have become until I try my new ones on!
Although on a more simple level if you feel that you are not living life to the full or if the pain of the past or the discomfort of the present restricts you from being all you want to be then once again professional help could quickly enable you to move on!
It is common for therapy sessions to be agreed in chunks, blocks of six for example. This gives people the opportunity to get a feel for therapy and to see if it is what they need.
Unfortunately, there can be a negative stigma about accessing therapeutic help, this really is an unfortunate state of affairs as at times
in life we all need help from somebody and taking responsibility for changing things deserves praise and congratulations.
One of the most common factors that prevents people from moving on is avoiding things, putting your head in the sand and delaying dealing with the problem.
So, considering accessing professional help is actually a very mature, sensible and responsible response to your circumstances and well done if you are!
